HENRY E. “SHORTY” AUMANN JR., age 84, of Loyal, WI, passed away at home on Thursday, September 1, 2022 surrounded by his loving family, after a 6-year battle with Mesothelioma.  Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal.  Rev. Barry Saylor and Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh will co-officiate, and burial will follow in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church, on Wednesday, from 9am until time of service.
Henry Edward Aumann, Jr. was born on October 1, 1937 in Neillsville, WI, the son of Henry Sr. and Agnes (Langreck) Aumann.  In 1946, his parents moved the family to Loyal where he attended St. Balthazar Catholic School and Loyal High School.  On October 22, 1960, he married the love of his life, Lois M. Wucherpfenning at St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Loyal, and they shared 61 years together.  Together they shared many good times, made many happy memories and battled together the challenges mesothelioma brought.
Family was very important to Shorty. He loved going to his children’s and grandchildren’s games, concerts and events.  He was their biggest cheerleader and was always so proud of their accomplishments.  He loved spending time at the cottage, watching the grandkids fish and waterski.  He could sit for hours on the deck at the lake, visiting with family and friends.  As the mesothelioma progressed, he was disappointed that his health prevented him from being able to do these things that he loved so much.
Shorty worked in construction for his entire life.  In 1969, he started his own business, Henry Aumann Builders, which is now under the direction of his son Randy.  He was well known in the community and the surrounding area for the many new homes and remodeling projects he completed over the past 53 years.  Shorty was an amazing man who worked very hard his entire life.  He had an eye for detail and was a perfectionist when it came time to build, remodel or fix something.  He did not cut corners or take the easy way out on any project he committed to.
Those who knew Shorty, know he had quite a sense of humor.  He did not always have a lot to say, and sometimes you would wonder if he was listening, but then he would make some funny comments that would make everyone laugh and confirm that indeed he was listening.
Shorty is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois; his daughter: Lori (Bob) VanHandel; his sons: Brian (Terri) Aumann, and Randy (Kristin Mikula) Aumann; five grandchildren: Ben (Justina) Nikolai, Jonathan (Breanna) Aumann, Marcus (Kaitlyn) Aumann, McKayla VanHandel, and Halle Aumann; seven great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Gracie, Aiden, Emily, Alana, Evan, and Ella; two sisters: Caroline Miller and Doreen Mrotek; special sister-in-law, Doris Aumann and special nephew, Tom Aumann; his sisters and brothers-in-law: Lenora Williams, Carol Sandley, Lucille Bauer, Walter (Eileen) Wucherpfennig, Glenn (Debbie) Wucherpfennig, David (Nancy) Wucherpfennig; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Bsieso, Dr. Yeboah, and the entire oncology department at the Marshfield Clinic for their wonderful care over the past 6 years.  In addition, the past two months we have worked closely with St. Croix Home Hospice and are especially grateful for the amazing people who were part of his care team - Breanna, Randy, Jen, and Rhonda.  We were so blessed to have you to care for him and provide support to all of us.
