Full Obituary
ALICE E. MROZ, age 86, of Thorp, WI, passed away at Dove Healthcare – Wissota Health in Chippewa Falls, WI on Friday, January 20, 2017.
Alice Estelle Strzok was born on May 8, 1930 in the Town of Withee, rural Thorp, the daughter of Michael C. and Anna F. (Wnek) Strzok. She was raised on the family farm and received her elementary education at Pozen School, and graduated from Thorp High School in 1949. She worked at Thorp Finance for ten years after graduation. Alice was united in marriage to Clarence R. Mroz on September 10, 1955 at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp. They took over the operation of the Mroz farm in the Town of Withee, northeast of Thorp. Alice was a full-time mother, homemaker and farmwife after the birth of their daughter, working alongside her husband Clarence on the farm and assisting with his logging business. She continued to reside on the farm with Clarence until a few days prior to her passing.
Alice was a member of St. Bernard - St. Hedwig's Catholic Church and the PCCW. She had many interests, including bowling, golfing, polka-dancing, cooking, canning, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends. She loved tending to her flower beds and gardens and watching things grow. Many neighbors and friends were recipients of her garden produce or farm fresh eggs through the years. Alice’s generosity, kindness, and fun-loving nature will be remembered by all who knew her.
She will be dearly missed by her husband of 61 years: Clarence; daughter and son-in-law: Cheryl and Terry Halida of Chippewa Falls; Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law: Rose Zuber of Colby, Agnes Bogacz of Chicago, Theresa (Ralph) Javore of Menomonee Falls, Alice (Edwin) Bishop of Franklin, Louis Wehlacz of Glendora, CA, and Delores Strzok of Thorp; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Chester and E. Harvey Strzok; and two sisters: Lorraine Wehlacz and Margaret Mroz as well as five brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at St. Bernard - St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. Janusz Kowalski and Rev. Joshy Mathew will concelebrate and burial will follow in Old St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery, with her nephews serving as pallbearers. Lunch will be served afterwards in the church basement. Visitation will be held at the church, on Wednesday, from 11am until time of service.
