Full Obituary

     JOHN A. GURKLIS, age 66, of Thorp, WI, passed away Mayo Clinic Health Systems - Oakridge, in Osseo, WI on Friday, January 20, 2017.  Visitation will be held at Thorp Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 9am to 11am.  Burial will follow at Old St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery in Thorp.  There will be no services held.
     John Anthony Gurklis was born on April 26, 1950 in Stanley, WI, to Frank J. and Marianne (Dempsey) Gurklis.  He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Thorp area, graduating from Thorp High School in 1968.  After high school he worked off of the farm for a short time and then started logging with his brother, Frank.  He was a logger until retiring in 2013.
     John had many interests, but especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.
     He is survived by four brothers:  Jim (Rhonda) Gurklis of Thorp,  Joe Gurklis of Thorp, Ken (Tammy) Gurklis of Thorp,  Frank Gurklis of Thorp;  one sister:  Connie (Larry) Pavay of Arizona;  nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
     He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Allan, in 1965.
