DOROTHY E. MAVIS, age 84, of Greenwood, WI, passed away at House of the Dove, in Marshfield, WI, on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016.  A Celebration of Life will be held at Parkway Pines, in Greenwood, WI, on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 12 pm until 3:30 pm.
Dorothy Ella Murphy was born on February 6, 1932 in Harvard, IL, the daughter of Cornelius "Neil" and Agnes (Sinding) Murphy.  She was raised and received her education in Marengo, IL, graduating from Marengo High School in 1949.  After completing her education, Dorothy worked at Woodstock Title Company until her marriage to Earl R. Mavis on November 8, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marengo, IL.  While living in Marengo, playing pinochle with the neighborhood card club and square dancing were a couple of her favorite pastimes.  They farmed in Marengo until 1978, at which time they moved to Greenwood, WI, where they farmed until retiring in 1998.  They sold the farm and moved into the City of Greenwood.
She will be dearly missed by her husband: Earl, of Greenwood;  five children:  Kathy (Jim) Mechler of Belvidere, IL,  Deb (Jim) Barr of Willard,  Bob (Kelly) Mavis of Brookfield, IL,  Deanna (Greg) Heiman of Neillsville,  Dave (Anne) Mavis of Greenwood;  eleven grandchildren;  nine great grandchildren;  one sister:  Mary Kearney of Marengo, IL,  one brother:  Cornelius “Jim” Murphy, Jr. of Harvard, IL;  nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents;  one granddaughter, Michelle Montgomery; and one sister, Agnes Cleary.
Dorothy's family would like to thank all of the staff at the House of the Dove, in Marshfield, for their unconditional compassion and care that they gave to her during her stay there.
