DONALD R. "IZZY" IZYDOREK, age 78, of Thorp, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, June 6, 2015.  Visitation will be held at Thorp Funeral Home on Friday, June 12, 2015 from 9am until 12pm, with a memorial service to follow conducted by Rev. John Sindler.  Private burial of cremains will take place at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
Donald Raymond Izydorek was born on August 1, 1936 in Thorp, WI, the son of Raymond V. and Theresa (Keideth) Izydorek.  He was raised in Thorp, received his elementary education at St. Bernard's Catholic School and graduated from Thorp High School in 1954.  After completing his education, Don enlisted into the U.S. Air Force, in the fall of 1954.  He received his basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX, and later was stationed at Walker AFB in Roswell, NM.  He was united in marriage to Marjorie D. Cook on December 1, 1956 at St. Hedwig's Chapel in Thorp.  After his honorable discharge, he returned to Thorp and worked at the Thorp IGA and for Howie Sturtz at WCCN Radio.  Don attended UW-Eau Claire and the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science, in Milwaukee, graduating in 1963.  He returned to Thorp and worked with his father, Raymond, for 10 years.  He purchased Thorp Funeral Home in April 1969, and operated the business until retiring in September 2000.
Don was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, the Thorp American Legion, the Thorp Moose Lodge, and a member of the Thorp Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Department for many years.
He had many interests, but especially enjoyed playing golf, watching the Packers and Badgers, spending time at his hunting shack, his morning coffee at the Thorpedo, and his daily visits to Cindy's.
Don will be dearly missed by his wife, Marge, of Thorp;  2 daughters:  Kim (Jerry) Kobylarczyk of Thorp, Kelly Izydorek of Eau Claire;  3 grandchildren:  Jeremy (Amy) Olson, Kaleigh Kobylarczyk (J.D. Marquardt), and Jace Kobylarczyk (Alex Andrea Stammer);  3 great-grandchildren:  Jacoby, Channing, and Zac; 2 sisters:  Karen (Art) Alger of Hudson,  Raeleen (Marv) Jarvis of Apple Valley, MN;  one aunt:  Dottie Rasmussen of Lake Mills, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Don took great pride in the service he provided to the Thorp community, and always carried a piece of grief with him for every family he served.  His wit and great sense of humor will truly be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, Don's family requests that memorials be directed to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 537 W. Broadway, Medford, WI, 54451.
