DOROTHY L. SMITH, age 96, of Colby, formerly of Greenwood, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Colonial Center, in Colby. Graveside services will be held at 11am on June 28, 2014 at the Loyal Cemetery with Rev. Patsy Roe officiating.
Dorothy Lillian Duell was born on May 20, 1918, in Township of Weston, WI, a daughter of the late Anna (Flaherty) and Frank Duell. She was raised on the family farm northeast of Loyal and received her education at area schools, graduating from Loyal High School in 1936. Dorothy then moved to Chicago, where she worked for a couple years. She was united in marriage to Henry A. Smith on June 28, 1949 at the Loyal United Methodist Church. They lived in Greenwood, where Dorothy worked for many years at the Greenwood Farmer's Store and later for Decker's Grocery Store until her retirement. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Greenwood.
In her spare time, Dorothy loved playing cards, going to the casino, shopping, and getting her hair done every week.
She is survived by one sister: Verle String of Jefferson, WI; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry, on January 14, 1989; and three brothers: Merlin "Pat", Kenneth and Adelbert Duell.
