Genevieve Katherine Dlugolecki (Czarnecki), 71 years old of Gilman, Wisconsin passed away on Monday March 31, 2014 at the Cornell Area Care and Rehabilitation Center in Cornell, Wisconsin. Genevieve was a breast cancer survivor for 6 years and fought a tough battle that ended her life. Genevieve was born on May 5, 1942 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Bernard and Monica (Mnikolaicik) Korzynski. Genevieve graduated from Stanley High School, Class of 1960. She married Joseph S. Czarnecki on October 15, 1960 in Thorp, Wisconsin. She and her family resided in Thorp, Wisconsin and operated a dairy farm for over 30 years. Later in life, Genevieve attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and obtained a Baccalaureate Degree and then a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. Genevieve worked as a Social Worker in Gilman, Black River Falls, and Marshfield. Genevieve enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, shopping, fishing, reading and collecting books, and being with her long-time companion and friend Robert (Bob) Filipiak. Bob and Genevieve spent much time together traveling, site seeing, and going to Sunday Polka dances throughout the region. Genevieve is survived by two children: a daughter Loretta (Marshall) Smith of St. Michael, Minnesota and a son Joseph (Marlene) Czarnecki of Gilman, Wisconsin. She is further survived by her three grandchildren Emmaly Smith, Joseph and Melissa Czarnecki. She was preceded in death by her daughter Christine Czarnecki in 1960, her parents, and her husband. Genevieve's wishes were to be cremated. A visitation for friends and family will be held at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin, Wisconsin from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Following visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated by Rev. MarionTalaga with entombment at New St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery in Thorp. The family would like to THANK all of Genevieve's friends and family who visited, phoned, and supported Genevieve during her times of illness. THANK YOU to Bob for always being a loyal friend and companion and part of the family. In addition, a very special THANK YOU to all the Cancer Team at the Marshfield Clinic; the staff and physicians at Ministry Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley, Wisconsin; and all the staff at the Cornell Care Center and St. Joseph's Hospice for their assurance of exceptional care during her rehabilitation and end of life.
