Full Obituary

ELMER A. SCHREINER, age 83, of Loyal, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, in Loyal. Rev. Steve Brice will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Schreiner, Jason Piltz, Brandon Schreiner, Aaron Decker, Phil Bauer and Scott Curtis. Visitation will be held at the church, on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 6pm to 8pm, and again at the church, on Tuesday, from 10am until time of service.
Elmer Anton Schreiner was born on October 28, 1930 in Rib Lake, WI, the son of George and Frances (Haider) Schreiner. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Rib Lake area, graduating from Rib Lake High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Quantico, VA. He met Helen L. Babish, who was working for the FBI in Washington, D.C. at the time. They were united in marriage on April 16, 1955 at St. John's Catholic Church in Portage, PA. They moved to Chicago, IL where Elmer worked in a tape factory. In 1959, they moved to Wisconsin and purchased a farm southeast of Loyal. While farming, Elmer also worked at Modern of Marshfield for a few years, where they made furniture. After retiring from farming, he helped some of the area farmers with field work, until he physically couldn't anymore.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the Loyal American Legion Post #175.
Elmer had many interests, but especially enjoyed playing pool and throwing horseshoes.
He is survived by his children: Irene (Randy) Ellis of Marshfield, Mike of Fort Worth, TX, Ellen (Dennis) Decker of Unity, Paul (Judy) of Marshfield, Mark (Sharon) of Benbrook, TX, Carol Dwinellof Hurst, TX, Bruce of Oak Park, CA, Brian (Vicki) of Loyal; one sister: Emma Schoonover of Mill, WY; and one sister-in-law: Esther Schreiner of Rib Lake. He is further survived by many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Helen, on June 11, 2009; one daughter-in-law: Gwyn Schreiner; 9 brothers: George, Clarence, Lawrence "Bud", Alfred "Fritz", Raymond, John, Arthur, Harold "Otto", Leo; and 4 sisters: Ruth Quednow, Agnes Krause, Mary Costley and Ella Guy.
