Full Obituary
WILLIAM E. "BUD" DENK, age 88, of Greenwood, died on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Clark County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:30AM on Friday, March 14, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood. Fr. Steve Brice will officiate and burial will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at the church, on Friday, from 9:00AM until time of service. William Edward Denk, Jr. was born on May 28, 1925, in Greenwood, WI, the son of William J. Denk, Sr. and Mary (nee Gintner) Denk. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in Greenwood. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 - 1946 as a paratrooper and with the airborne engineers, Japanese occupation force. William married Marcia Frances Bruss at St. John's Catholic Church, in Marshfield, WI, on December 27, 1951. They lived in Marshfield and Eau Claire until 1956, when he took over the operation of the family farm after his father's death. He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed shooting pool, bowling, hunting, big band music, dancing, singing barbershop and singing in the church choir, going for drives, and was an avid reader. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marcy; his children: Brian (Julie) Denk of Greenwood, Cynthia Birkett of Madison, Susan (Paul) Zuehlke of Madison, Jill (Fred) Gregorich of Willard, Lorin (Kaila) Denk of Weston, Nancy (Ric) Brown of Fitchburg, Danny (Michelle) Denk of Stoughton, Douglas (Kris) Denk of Weston, David (Mary) Denk of Greenwood, and Riley (Kristy) Denk of Madison. He is further survived by one son-in-law, Gene Sowieja of Silt, CO; 20 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Virgil Denk of Decorah, IA, John "Jack" Denk of Genesee Depot, WI, Ronald Denk of Cedarburg, WI; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter: Lonni Sowieja; one infant son: Edward; 4 brothers: Gerald "Jerry" Denk, Leonard Denk, Abdon "Donny" Denk, Bernard "Bernie" Denk; and 2 sisters: Marian "Mayme" Lyons and Dorothy Wagner. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Clark County Health Care Center for the wonderful care, and to all the kind people of the Greenwood community who helped to "keep an eye out" for him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greenwood American Legion Post #238 or St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood.
