Full Obituary

WALTER J. SIMBOLI, age 76, of Greenwood, passed away at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, in King, WI, on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the United Methodist Church, in Loyal. Rev. Patsy Roe will officiate and burial will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, on Thursday, from 10am until time of service.
Walter John Simboli was born on August 13, 1936 in Newark, NJ, the son of Ralph and Rose (Scolaio) Simboli. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1955 where he met Mary "Marie" J. Hollman. They were united in marriage on April 4, 1959 at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL. After their retirement from the Air Force in 1977, they moved to Greenwood to be closer to family. Walter showed his generosity to the community by donating to the food pantry and other local charities. He and his wife, Marie, were foster parents for over 20 years, and had more than 200 foster children.
Walter is survived by his children: Angie (Theresa Stevens) Simboli of Greenwood, Tony (Sara) Simboli of Greenwood, Lisa (Kevin) Ritter of Whitehall, Shelly Simboli (Tom Mesier) of Gilman; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie, on November 21, 2008; one daughter, Terri Thomas in 2003; one grandson, Michael; four brothers; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family would like express their heartfelt thanks to the incredible staff at King Veterans Retirement Home for their loving and faithful care and service to our father/grandfather. You all are amazing and we couldn't have asked for better care. We appreciate all the service you do to all the veterans and their families.
