MARVIN H. VERKUILEN, age 84, of Thorp, WI, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, June 12, 2026 at the Homeplace of Stanley in Stanley, WI.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Friday, June 26, 2026 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp.  Rev. William Felix will officiate, and burial will follow in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9am until time of service.
Marvin Henry Verkuilen was born on May 5, 1942 in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp, WI, the son of Walter W. and Ruby M. (Coates) Verkuilen.  He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Thorp area, graduating from Thorp High School in 1960.  After high school, Marvin stayed on the farm to help his father.  He was united in marriage to Diane E. Bowers on October 25, 1969, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Appleton.  They resided in Thorp on the Verkuilen family dairy farm, where they raised their five children.  Marvin retired from farming in August of 2000, becoming a full-time mail carrier with the Thorp Post Office, a job he had been doing part-time for many years.  He retired from the post office in 2008.
He had many interests, but especially loved attending his grandchildren's activities, tapping trees, being in the woods, cutting wood, and traveling.  Marvin was a huge Green Bay Packer fan, being a season ticket holder since 1978, and loved Milwaukee Braves baseball.
He was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, where he was a lector for decades, served on the Clark County Electric Cooperative board for 14 years, was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for many years, was involved with the Land O' Lakes Young farmers, and coached 4-H softball.
Marvin will be dearly missed by his five children: Bill of Maple Grove, MN, Cyndy (Matt) Miklasz of Boyd, WI, Greg (Brenda) of Brainerd, MN, Cathy (Todd) Hein of Cadott, WI, and Barbara (Douglas) Mederos of Hollywood, MD; his 16 grandchildren: Emma, Connor, and Adam (Bill); Angela, David, Ben, and Emily (Cyndy); Barrett and Kimber (Greg); Ruby, Hudson, and Henry (Cathy); and Maggie, Cara, Jack, and Sam (Barb); two sisters: Patricia (Merlin) Nevala of Menomonie, WI, Sue Beaudette of Prior Lake, MN; one brother, John (Dawn) Verkuilen of Cameron, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Diane, on March 1, 2026; and three brothers: Richard, Roy and Robert "Veek" Verkuilen.
Marvin's family would like to thank all of the staff at Homeplace of Stanley for their compassion, comfort and care they provided Marvin during his stay there.
