It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ronald E. Carteron, age 79, of Greenwood, WI, who passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Ronald Eugene Carteron was born on August 29, 1946, and was raised in Greenwood, WI, the community he proudly called home throughout his life. Ron knew Greenwood like the back of his hand. He could tell you what nearly every building in town used to be, who owned it years ago, and the stories connected to the people and places that shaped the community over generations. He carried a deep appreciation for his hometown and the history of the people who lived there.
Known for his strong work ethic, humble nature, and unwavering dedication to those he loved, Ron lived a life marked by service, sacrifice, and perseverance.
Ronald proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during both the Peacetime and Vietnam Era. His military records reflect honorable service from July 14, 1964, to February 10, 1969, and again from February 8, 1971, to November 9, 1976. During his years in the Air Force, he served as an aircraft maintenance specialist, a role that demanded precision, discipline, and dedication. His service included time in Vietnam, where exposure to Agent Orange ultimately contributed to health complications later in life.
Following his military service, Ronald found his lifelong passion behind the wheel of a semi-truck. For approximately 50 years, he traveled the highways of America as a professional truck driver. He deeply loved life on the road — the early mornings, the open highways, the conversations at truck stops, and the pride that came from honest hard work. Truck driving was more than a profession to Ron; it was simply part of who he was. Even in his later years, he continued driving and working hard, remaining behind the wheel until less than a year before his passing.
One of Ron’s favorite pastimes was staying connected with his fellow truck drivers through long trucking “conference calls” and conversations that could last for hours. Whether discussing road conditions, engines, old trucking stories, or simply catching up on life, those calls brought him great joy and kept him connected to the profession and people he loved so much. To many, Ron was not only a truck driver, but part of a brotherhood built over countless miles and years on the road.
Despite the long hours and countless miles away from home, Ronald’s greatest pride was always his family. He was a devoted and loving husband to Dawn Carteron, whose companionship and care remained a constant source of strength throughout his life. Together they built a life centered on love, resilience, and family values.
Ronald will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, kind heart, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Friends and family knew him as dependable, hardworking, and deeply patriotic. He carried himself with humility and never sought recognition for the sacrifices he made, both in uniform and throughout his life.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Dawn Carteron; his son, Jeremy; three grandchildren: Maxwell Ronald, Kayla, and Hayden; four siblings: Gail, Ritajean, Denis, and John; along with extended family members and many dear friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and other beloved family members.
A small private burial service for family will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held on or around August 29, 2026, which would have marked Ron’s 80th birthday.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all those who provided care, friendship, and support to Ronald throughout his life and final days.
Though his final journey has come to an end, the miles he traveled, the lives he touched, and the legacy he leaves behind will never be forgotten.
