Full Obituary

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Anton “Tony” John Langreck, has passed from this world to eternity with Christ on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at the age of 90.
Tony was born on March 25, 1936 to Francis B. and Marcella L. (Schaefer) Langreck in Neillsville, WI.  He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Neillsville, as well as completing various trades correspondence courses throughout his early working career.  He served in the Army National Guard from August 1954 to August 1957.
Tony was united in marriage to Mary A. Aumann at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville on July 13, 1957.  Their wedding day was a hot one—and Tony is remembered for “skipping out” a few times from the wedding festivities to go home and take a shower.  They shared 69 years and had six children together.
Early in Tony’s life, he owned a milk route.  He worked for 16 years for Tesmer Construction; many of those years as a construction foreman.  In 1978, he bought a semi-truck and was an owner/operator.  He primarily hauled steel to the west coast and lumber back to the Midwest.  After he sold the truck, he was the patrolman for the Town of York for many years.  Dedicated was his middle name.  On more than one occasion, he spent the night at the shop to ensure he could get there and get plowing as soon as the storm was over.  He was proud of a plow blade he designed and built to better move the snow.  Not one to be idle, he delivered parts for Carquest for 15 years in his “retirement”.
Tony enjoyed reading, playing cards, driving and traveling.  He would play cards at the kitchen table at family gatherings, play at Butch and Berdella’s bar on Friday nights with his brother Eugene, and in later years with the Friemoth’s at their home.  When his health prevented travel to the Friemoth home, they brought the party to him at his home!  Tony likely read every Louis L’Amour book written several times over.  His daughter Lois, in recent years, had a hard time keeping his kindle loaded with books to read.  He loved to read.  He and Mary made many trips across the country.  They could find the most unique tourist stops such as the biggest ball of twine or the deepest hand dug well.  He and Mary enjoyed visiting various shrines across the country.  Holy Hill was a favorite. They also treasured the trips to San Antonio to visit Butch and his family.  Tony enjoyed steam engines; he attended many Strum Steam Engine days—with kids tailing behind and later the Edgar Steam Engine Days.  Mike was always a willing travel companion to Edgar!  Tony was proud of the John Deere tractor he restored.  He was honored to drive the veteran’s float with his tractor in the Neillsville Heritage Days Parades.  It also brought him great joy to take Mary and the family on a hayride using his tractor.  He always enjoyed planning and attending large Langreck family reunions.
Tony was a member of the Neillsville Men’s Club as well as a lifetime active member of St. Mary’s Parish in Neillsville.  Through the years, he served on the church council, assisted with many remodeling projects such as laying tile or pouring cement.  He served as an eucharistic minister, usher and money counter.   He served the church faithfully for decades.  He will be remembered for his deep faith, strong work ethic and commitment to his wife and family.  He will be deeply missed by many.
Tony is survived by his wife, Mary; children: Toni Bravener, Carolyn (Allen) Berrett, Lois (Randy) Montgomery, Michael (Barb) Langreck.  He is further survived by grandchildren: Jeannie (Aaron) Symicek, Jason Bravener, Kevin (Jenny) Bravener, Ryan (Jenny) Anason, Nicholas Hause, Lucas Hause, Kayla (Nathan) Rooney, Justin (Breana) Langreck, John (Courtney) Langreck, Hannah Langreck and Marcella Langreck.  He is also survived by great-grandchildren: Riley and Samantha Symicek, Lana, Mila, Nora and Josey Langreck, Noah, Isaiah, Benjamin and Abigail Anason, Heidi, Eviana, Lucia, Suket and Musa Rooney.  His brother, Francis (Bonnie); sister-in-law, Pat Langreck; brother-in-law, Walter Aumann; sister-in-law, Diane (John) Nowak; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Marcella (Schaefer) Langreck; his in-laws, Walter and Mable (Squire) Aumann; infant son, John; son, Butch Langreck; son-in-law, Danny Bravener; brother, Eugene Langreck; sister-in-law, Ellen Aumann; brother-in-law, Charlie Aumann; his grandparents; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, Tony requested memorials be made to the St. Mary’s Church Cemetery Fund.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1813 Black River Rd, Neillsville, at 10:30 am on Thursday, April 9, 2026.  Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 am to the start of the mass.  A rosary will be said for Tony beginning at 8:45 am at the church.  Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Neillsville.  Pallbearers will be: Jason Bravener, Ryan Anason, Nicholas Hause, Justin Langreck, Hannah Langreck and Macie Langreck.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks for the care provided by Compassus Hospice over the last several months—especially Cassie—and The House of the Dove for their care in the last week of dad’s life.
