There will be a 9:30am rosary service held at the church on Thursday. Full Obituary
Eloise Virginia Nowobielski, 96, devoted her life to God, family, and hard farm work so her children and grandchildren could have better lives. She achieved that before she passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp, WI, with family present to pray her home.
Eloise was happiest close to home. She was born June 11, 1929 to Adam J. and Martha D. (Olejniczek) Szerlong, at home on the family farm outside of Thorp, where she grew up. She attended Pozen Elementary and graduated from Thorp High School in 1947. For a short time, she worked in accounting at Blue Moon Dairy, a skill she later used to manage the farm’s books.
On November 11, 1951, she married Clarence C. Nowobielski, the boy from the farm just a quarter mile down the road, at St. Hedwig’s Church, another quarter mile farther. They purchased his parents’ dairy farm, where together they lived, worked, and raised children for the rest of their lives.
Eloise’s Catholic faith was the steady center of her life. Deeply devoted to Mother Mary and the Rosary, she was active in the St. Bernard/St. Hedwig PCCW, Right to Life, and taught CCD. She read a profusion of religious literature. She had to be very sick to miss a Sunday Mass.
Growing up during the Depression and WWII shaped her frugality and resourcefulness. She fed her large family with fresh and home-canned goods from the garden and meat she butchered herself. Nothing went to waste. Her children fondly remember her blood sausage (kiszka) and duck blood soup (czarnina), complete with the feet floating in the pot, recipes drawn from the Polish heritage she was proud of.
In her precious spare time, Eloise loved to sew and quilt. She created high-quality quilts for charity and made one for every grandchild and great-grandchild. Her faith and work ethic molded multiple generations of the family.
Surviving Eloise are six children: Ed (Elizabeth) of Thorp, John (Patricia) of Thorp, Judy (Jody) Conner of Neillsville, Francis of Thorp, Pat (Duane) Jarocki of Withee and Jerry (Erika) of Boyd. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 14½ great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents; one daughter, Clara (Wes) Meier; and her brother, Marion.
Eloise’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Oakbrook Manor, Turner Integrity Care, and St. Croix Hospice for the excellent and loving care they provided in her final years.
