Full Obituary

     ROSE M. MEYER, age 79, of Stanley, WI, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Thorp Funeral Home in Thorp, WI.  Rev. Stanislaus Michael Antony will officiate, and burial will follow in New St. Hedwig Cemetery in Thorp.  Pallbearers will be: Gary Collum, Zach Johnson, Marcus Shock, Joey Pletka, Jr., Jayden Johnson and Damian Johnson.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00am until time of service.
     Rose Marie Smoczyk was born on May 4, 1946 in Thorp, WI, the daughter of Frank and Frances (Mendalski) Smoczyk. She was raised on the family farm in the Town of Taft, rural Thorp, and received her education in the Thorp area, graduating from Thorp High School in 1964.  After high school, Rose held various jobs, including, working at the Stanley Theater, bartending and managing Ed's Hangout for her brother Eddie, bartending at the Curve Inn north of Stanley, and then worked at the Clark County Health Care Center, in Owen, WI as a unit assistant from 1993 until retiring in 2004.
     She had many interests, but especially enjoyed Polka dancing, going to the casino, traveling, playing Bingo, Solitaire and Yahtzee, and volunteering at the Quonset Hall in Thorp.
     Rose will be dearly missed by her son and daughter: Travis (Tina) Johnson of Eau Claire, WI, and Bonnie Johnson of Hugo, MN; eight grandchildren: Kayla (Andrew) Mitchell, Gabriel Johnson, Jayden Johnson, Zach Johnson, Marcus (Justine) Shock, Damian Johnson, Jamie Johnson and Kevin Johnson; seven great-grandchildren: Amy Johnson, Brentley Dierks, Ares Winters, Thaddeus Shock, Payton Mitchell, Amelia Mitchell and Natalie Mitchell; her soulmate for more than 30 years, Roy Kleist of Stanley, WI; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Justin Johnson; two grandchildren: Chelsea Johnson and Lance Weiner; one great-grandchild, Jude Ude; her sister, Mary Kirschner; and five brothers: Benedict, Ernest, Leon, Edwin and Henry Smoczyk.
