Full Obituary BILL FIFER, age 95, of Thorp, WI, passed away peacefully at is home surrounded by his family on Friday, February 13, 2026. A Celebration of Bill’s Life is being planned later this summer.
He was born at home on July 6, 1930 in Stanley, WI, to Chris and Myrtle (Martinson) Fifer. Raised with strong values and a hardworking spirit, Bill attended a local country school through the eighth grade before beginning a life defined by dedication to family, country, and community.
In 1951, Bill was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He continued his commitment in the Army Reserves until 1959, receiving an honorable discharge that same year. On October 6, 1956, Bill married the love of his life, Theresa Bielecki. Together they built a beautiful life and were blessed with six children: Debra, Dorene, Bill Jr., Kathy, Karen, and Wayne. Family was at the heart of everything Bill did, and he took great pride in providing for and supporting those he loved.
Bill began farming in the Huron area before moving to Stanley and eventually settling in Greenwood, where he remained for the rest of his life. A man who valued hard work, he spent many years working for Greenwood Homes and later became a carpenter, always known for his steady hands and dependable nature.
Outside of work, Bill found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing and hunting, tending to his garden, and raising game birds. He appreciated the outdoors and the peace it brought him, often sharing those passions with family and friends. He also enjoyed bird watching and visiting the local watering holes.
Bill will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father, hardworking provider, and a man who lived a life rooted in service, resilience, and love for the land and those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the community he called home.
He is survived by his children: Debra of Thorp, WI, Dorene (Dave) Kappel of Marshfield, WI, Kathy (Mike) Campbell of Dayton, OH, Karen (Rick Andres) Fifer of Auburndale, WI, and Wayne (Peggy) Fifer of Stanley, WI; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; his daughter-in-law, Sheryl Fifer of Cove, TX; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Theresa, of 43 years; his son, Bill Jr.; his parents and seven siblings.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care, with special thanks to Jason, whose kindness and dedication as Bill’s hospice nurse brought comfort and support during his final days.
