Robert Harold Schesel was born on February 28, 1945 in Stanley, WI, the son of Robert J. and Pearl L. (Schultze) Schesel. He was raised in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp, and attended area schools, graduating from Thorp High School in 1963. After high school, Robbie went to work at Thorp Finance until his induction into the U.S. Army on September 16, 1965. After his honorable discharge on September 2, 1967, he returned to work at Thorp Finance. He was united in marriage to Nancy L. Gebauer on May 16, 1970 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Medford, WI. After their marriage, they purchased a farm south of Thorp, in the Town of Reseburg. In addition to farming, he also worked at Greenwood Homes, in Greenwood, WI, as an electrician and plumber from 1973 until its closing in 1975. Robbie then went to work as a rural mail carrier at the Thorp Post Office until retiring in 2009.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and had many interests, but especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, flea markets, and garage sales. Robbie was an active member of the Thorp VFW Post 957 and Thorp American Legion Post 118. He recently served on the committee to plan and build the Thorp Veterans Remembrance Park. Robbie took great pride to help and serve as a veteran. He could fix almost anything, and always helped his neighbors with their problems. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Robbie is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Thorp; three children: Todd (Kristy) Schesel of Spencer, WI, Sarah (Brian) Hempleman of Thorp, Tim (Tessa) Schesel of Thorp; eight grandchildren: Emily, Kellie, Amanda (TJ), Melanie, Aiden, Tony, Luke, and Ashlee; six great-grandchildren: Justus, Ansley, Kase, Brecken, Lincoln, and Waylon; two brothers; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Schesel.
