Full Obituary

ROGER W. COPAS, age 77, of Thorp, WI (formerly of Cornell) passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, WI.  He was surrounded by his family.
On February 18, 1948, Roger William Copas was born to Orville and Nancy (Hawke) Copas in La Crosse, WI.  He was raised in Iowa until moving to the Bruce/Ladysmith, WI area as a young boy.  Roger received his education in the Bruce and Flambeau Public Schools.  After completing his education, Roger enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1968, where he spent 3 ½ years serving in the Vietnam War and receiving two Purple Hearts before his Honorable Discharge in 1971.
Roger was united in marriage to Roxanne M. Pospisil on December 2, 1972 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Tony, WI.  They spent 52 wonderful years together and Roxi was the love of his life.  After his military discharge, Roger worked for the Soo Line Railroad for 17 1/2 years.  In 1982, he started City Side Liquidators with his wife, with stores located in Clark, Chippewa, Rusk and Sawyer Counties.  In addition to owning his own business, Roger worked along with his son, Casey, as co-owner and operator of C&C Excavating.  He also maintained the Mill Yard Park softball field and cemetery in Estella.
In Roger’s lifetime, he served as president for the Soo Line Railroad Union and had many interests. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and bowling.  He liked watching the Brewers, Packers, Badgers, and Fox News.  He had great happiness when he was spending time with his 3 dogs: Daisy, Peanut, and Miss Mini.
Roger will be dearly missed by his wife, Roxi, of Thorp; three sons: Mike Copas of Cornell, WI, Casey Copas (Wanda Patrie) of Cornell, WI, and Levi (Heather) Copas of Chippewa Falls, WI; three grandsons: Brady (Nicole), Devin and Austin Copas; six siblings: Susan (Bruce) Petrie of Waukesha, WI, Wayne Copas of Ladysmith, WI, Alan (Cherry) Copas of Durand, WI, Sarah (Jim) Ambrose of Amherst, WI, Paul (Roberta) Copas of Ladysmith, WI, and Margaret (Jeff) Holzem of Ladysmith, WI; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Copas.
Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Monday, March 31, 2025 at the Thorp Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Voldberg officiating, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at 11am.  Following the service, Military Honors will be conducted by Thorp American Legion Post #118.
