Full Obituary At 101 years old, LaNore (St. Angelo) Anderson of Thorp, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 8, 2025. She had been living with her daughter, Jane Anderson-Wood, in Appleton, Wisconsin, at the time of her death.
LaNore was born on June 16, 1923 in Frederic, Wisconsin, to Victoria (DeSantis) and Louis St. Angelo. LaNore graduated from Frederic High School at the age of 16 and in 1940 she attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. LaNore was at the Madison train station in the spring of 1941 to welcome home the Wisconsin Badgers Basketball team, the newly crowned National Champions.
After one year of college, eager to do her part in World War II, LaNore joined the United States Coast Guard. She met her future husband, Hanford Anderson of Delavan, Minnesota, on an arranged date in Minneapolis. Han served in the Army Air Force. They married in San Francisco shortly after the end of the war and began their family in Frederic. In 1959, LaNore and Han and their five children at the time moved to Thorp, where Han started a new job with Thorp Finance. Their three youngest children were born in Thorp. LaNore lived in Thorp until the COVID-19 pandemic, when she moved in with Jane.
LaNore was a devout Catholic, a die-hard fan of her Packers, Badgers and Brewers, a staunch Democrat and proud Italian American — and not necessarily in that order. In 2017, LaNore was a finalist for the Green Bay Packers Fan Hall of Fame. Up until about a year ago she scored every Brewers game that she and Jane watched on TV. When living in Thorp, LaNore and her close friends attended nearly every Thorp Cardinals football, basketball and softball game, getting to know many of the officials on a first name basis.
LaNore was an avid card player, especially Bridge and Double-Solitaire. She was also a prolific knitter, having knit well over 5,000 hats for infants at Marshfield Clinic. Family gatherings, whether they were large St. Angelo family reunions or smaller Anderson get-togethers brought her great joy — not quite beating the Vikings or Gophers joy, but great joy nonetheless.
LaNore was preceded in death by her parents; her two older brothers, Fred and Leonard St. Angelo; her husband, Han; her son-in-law, Peter Wood; and her granddaughter, McKensie Culp.
LaNore is survived by her eight children: Jeffrey (Annette) of Mt. Horeb, WI; Gail Cywinski (Rod) of Sun City West, AZ; GwenEllyn of Salem, OR; Jane Anderson-Wood of Appleton, WI; Jill Culp (Kurt) of Rochester, MN; Gregory (Laura Peck) of Maple Bluff, WI; John (Alison Turner) of Madison, WI and Joel (Rebekah) of Minneapolis, MN; nine grandchildren: Christine Licari (Tom), Kate St. Clair (Chris), Carrie Skinner (Bobby), Tom Anderson, Chiara Paavarud (Jeff), Gabriella Anderson, Lucia Anderson, Lily Anderson and Carter Anderson; and three great-grandchildren: Sophia Licari, Bennett St. Clair and Anthony Licari.
LaNore's family extends much gratitude and thanks to her many healthcare providers at Marshfield Clinic, the VA, Dr. Thomas Parry and especially her caregivers from St. Croix Hospice the last few months.
