Frank Corradi will officiate, and burial will follow at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI, with full military honors.  Pallbearers will be his nephews: Michael Jorgensen, Louie P. Kowieski, Chris Kowieski, Jeff Kowieski, Jason Kowieski, Erik Fredrickson, Brad Kowieski, and Bill McElroy.  Honorary pallbearers are his nephews Craig Fieschko, Jon Kowieski, and Ryan Kowieski.  Visitation will be held at St. Hedwig's Chapel on Wednesday from 9:30am until time of service.
Paul Louis Kowieski was born on December 8, 1942 in Stanley, WI, the son of Paul J. and Julia A. (Niedzwiecki) Kowieski.  He was raised and received his education in Thorp.
By the age of 17, Paul decided on the course he would take in his life.  Three days after graduating from Thorp High School, he left the farm and began his career in the United States Air Force.  Master Sergeant Paul Kowieski was most proud of his involvement and contributions to the Air Force Missile Defense System that was then in its infancy.  At the time, Paul could not speak of his work in the “Star Wars” defense system that still protects America today.  After 20 years of service in the Air Force, Paul retired to civilian life and had several jobs.  He was more likely to be seen pursuing one of several life-long interests, including fishing, hunting, teaching or telling stories, as he tried on different “hats.” The hats he chose to wear were those of brother, uncle, mentor and sportsman.
Many family members and friends have benefited from Paul’s knowledge and generosity.  As recipients of this accomplished sportsman, there are many more good fishermen and hunters due to his efforts and discoveries.  Over time and due to popular demand, some of Paul’s interests became small businesses.  Several of his hand-made fishing jigs were known to catch limits of fish in multiple states and countries.  He also repaired and refurbished fishing rods and carved diamond willow walking sticks for sale and as gifts.
He was not stingy with teaching.  Anyone who showed an interest, family or friend, was taken under his wing and taught the skills that 80+ years afforded him.  Paul would be proud if those who learned from him, would continue his legacy by sharing their knowledge and experiences with others.  That would make him smile down on us all.  Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Mentor, Entrepreneur were some of the titles held by Paul.  His stories and accomplishments will not be soon forgotten.
He is survived by his siblings: Betty Jorgensen, Lilly Fieschko, Louis (Karen), Bill(Jane), Ed (Lilah), George (Karen), Nancy (Mark) Laimans, Sue (Noel) Fredrickson and Pat (Tom) McElroy.  Also surviving are 23 nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Paul's family would like to thank the staff at Clark County Rehab & Living Center and Heartland Hospice, especially his RN, Mary, for their care this past 1 ½ years.  He also enjoyed his housekeeper, Lana, and her updates about his Rod and Gun Club.  Family would also like to thank friends and family in the community who supported Paul through his journey.
