Full Obituary
AMELIA V. "MITZI" HODOROWSKI, entered eternity on Saturday, November 23, 2024, passing away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family. She had just celebrated her 96ᵗʰ birthday in September. Born September 10, 1928, on the family farm south of Thorp, WI, Amelia Vilas Wink was the eighth of eleven children born to Albert and Elizabeth (Keller) Wink. A lifelong resident of Thorp, she attended the Pioneer School and Thorp High School until the ninth grade. Her sisters gave her the nickname "Mitzi," which she didn’t particularly enjoy, but it stuck nonetheless.
Amelia Wink married Frank "Red" Hodorowski on May 8, 1948, and settled on a farm south of Thorp in 1949. A dedicated homemaker, Amelia worked tirelessly on the farm, feeding calves and heifers well into her 80s. She loved tending her garden, especially watching her daffodils and tulips bloom each spring. Amelia was active in the St. Bernard-St. Hedwig PCCW and supported her sons' school activities. She also lovingly cared for her husband for 20 years after he became disabled. Amelia's life was defined by hard work, faith, and a deep love for her family.
Most people knew her as Mitzi, but to a special few, she was simply Grandma—the best Grandma. She made everyone feel loved and cared for, always putting others before herself. She baked cookies, pies, and cooked every holiday meal, never sitting down until everyone else was served. When the stuffing ran out, she was already up, refilling the serving dish.
Grandma took care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in countless ways—making popsicles, teaching them to cook, and telling great stories of the past. She sent thoughtful cards for birthdays and holidays, always adding a personal note about the weather and farm life in her delicate cursive. Grandma loved playing games, especially Rummy 500, and would even apologize for winning!
It’s fitting that she passed on the first day of deer hunting season, a time when she’d pack sandwiches, fill thermoses with your beverage or soup of choice, sneak candy into your pockets, and make sure you had a hot breakfast before heading out. Her loving, selfless presence will forever be the heart and soul of our family.
She will be sadly missed by her three sons: Donald, Jerry (Shirlee), and Marvin Hodorowski; five grandchildren: David, Neil, Steven (Valerie), Heidi Hodorowski, and Kelly (Tyson) Jaquish; nine great-grandchildren: Everett and Leo Hodorowski, Aesop and Atticus Hodorowski, Honora and Arthur Hector, Braden, Adalynn and Dawson Jaquish; sisters-in-law: Arlene and Delores Wink; further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Amelia was the last of her generation being preceded in death by her husband Frank; her parents, Albert and Elizabeth; sisters: Mary Welciek, Bertha Pawlak, Cecilia Orzechowski, Edith Chmelik, Margaret Chemerys, Josephine Hodorowski, Betty Spaeth; and brothers: Anthony, Albert, and Lawrence Wink.
