Full Obituary VIRGINIA J. ACKER, age 92, of Greenwood, WI, passed away at VitaCare Living in Abbotsford WI on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Cuddie Funeral Home in Greenwood. Rev. Elizabeth Bier will officiate, and burial will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, from 10am until time of service.
Virginia Joyce Franz was born on August 21 1931 in Sidney, MT to Otto A. and Myrtle (Obergfell) Franz. As a young girl, her family moved to Greenwood, where she was raised and received her education, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1949. Virginia was united in marriage on June 10, 1950 to Richard G. Acker at the United Methodist Church in Loyal, WI. They lived and farmed northeast of Greenwood, where she was a homemaker and farmed alongside her husband. Virginia had also worked at Redville Dairy in Withee. In 1997, they sold the farm to their son, David, and retired from farming.
Virginia was a member of the former Zion United Church of Christ in Greenwood, and was active with its ladies aide, and she was a former member of the Clark County Homemakers.
She had many interests, but especially enjoyed square dancing, fishing, hunting, and trapping.
Virginia is survived by one son: David (Patricia) Acker of Loyal; two grandsons: Jeffrey (Sarah) Acker of Owen, and Travis Acker of Stanley; four great grandchildren: Amber, Janel, Blake and Montana Acker; one step-great granddaughter: McKenna Stabel; three great-great grandchildren: JaLeigh, Harleigh and Kinsley; one sister-in-law; Joyce Franz of Mesa, AZ; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Richard, on December 7, 2021; one son: Bryan Acker, on January 22, 2019; one grandson: Jesse Acker, on October 22, 1977; two sisters: Alice Verhulst and Alvina Franz in infancy; and two brothers: Paul and Douglas Franz.
