     RICHARD G. "DICK" ACKER, age 92, of Greenwood, WI, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at House of the Dove in Marshfield, WI.  A memorial service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Cuddie Funeral Home, in Greenwood.  Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Greenwood American Legion Post #238. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, on Wednesday, from 10am until time of service.
     Richard Gerald Acker was born on September 6, 1929 in the Town of Warner, rural Greenwood, to Paul and Hazel P. (Himes) Acker.  He was raised on the family farm, received his education in a country school and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1947.  Dick was united in marriage to Virginia J. "Ginger" Franz on June 12, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Loyal, WI.  He served in the U.S. Army from August 5, 1953 until his honorable discharge on June 9, 1955.  After returning home from the army, he worked at the Loyal Cannery and then farmed with his dad on the home farm, which he later took over.  Dick and Ginger farmed together until 1997.
     He had many interests, including, hunting, trapping and football, especially watching the Packers.
     Dick is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Greenwood; one son: David (Pat) Acker of Loyal; two grandsons: Jeffrey (Sarah) Acker of Owen, and Travis Acker of Stanley; four great grandchildren: Amber Acker of Owen, Janel Brown of Loyal, Blake Acker of Owen, Montana Acker of Greenwood; and one great-great granddaughter: JaLeigh Brown of Loyal.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Bryan Acker; one grandson, Jesse Acker; his sister, Betty Acker, and his brother, Ted Acker.
