A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Spencer. Rev. Barry Saylor will officiate, and burial of cremains will follow in West Spencer Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, on Saturday, from 9:30am until time of service.
Frances Jean Hlavac was born on April 21, 1933 on the farm homesteaded by her family, the daughter of Joseph S. and Ottilia G. (Elisher) Hlavac. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in Spencer area schools, graduating from Spencer High School in 1952. After high school, Frances worked at Dairy Belt in Spencer, now Land O' Lakes. She was united in marriage to Albert Leo Oelrich at Christ the King Catholic Church on May 21, 1960. They bought the family farm, Sunnybrook Farm, from her brother Joe in 1964. Frances and Albert farmed with their son, Dan, until retiring in 2013, at which time Dan took over farming. She continued living on the farm until the time of her death.
She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where she taught CCD in the 1970's, was very active over the years with Christian Mothers, and was a foster parent for several children.
Frances had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family, her horses, cows, cats, farming and being around the animals, cooking, fishing, deer and fox hunting, and watching The Young & The Restless.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Albert, of Spencer; her sons: Dan Oelrich of Spencer and John Oelrich of Martin, TN; her grandchildren: Owen and Lucy Oelrich of Martin, TN, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Rudy Hlavac; 4 sisters: Julie Sitko, Victoria "Mike" Thurzo, Agnes Holterman, and Sophie Hlavac; a half-brother: Joseph Hlavac; and 3 half-sisters: Marie Clegg, Catherine "Kate" Hlavac, and Ann McHale.
