Daniel Eugene Plewa was born on May 14, 1947 in Chicago, IL, the second son of Frank and Martha (Strzelewicz) Plewa. He grew up on the northwest side of Chicago, attended St. Hyacinth Catholic School, and graduated from St. Mel High School. Dan served his country after enlisting into the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a draftsman for the Teletype Corporation. Dan met his wife, Pat, on a blind date and was married at St. Valentine Catholic Church in Cicero, IL in 1975. They celebrated 44 years of marriage this past October. They had no children, just their beloved foster pets: Dixie, Lady, Bunny, Troubles and Tiny, throughout their time together.
He was a long-time member of the Teamsters Union. Dan worked at Fanning Cadillac, Davea Career Center, and Article II Gun Shop, all in Illinois. They moved from Chicago in 2003, retiring to the family property in Thorp.
Dan was a director and past president of the Illinois State Rifle Association, a member of the Northwest Gun Club of Illinois, an endowment member of the NRA, a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, and a member of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation. He was also a paid-up for life past commander, vice commander, and chaplain for the Thorp American Legion Post #118. He was a past governor of the Thorp Moose Lodge, and served for 14 years as the Clark County American Legion Chaplain. He was also past president of the Clark County Area Veterans Council, a member of the Polish Heritage Committee, the Thorp Dairy Days Committee, a member of the Thorp Area Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Thorp Sportsman's Club, and was very active with the Goggle Eye Trap Club.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Pat; his sister-in-law: Jean Plewa; his nephew: Mark (Peggy) Plewa; two nieces: Donna (Tim) Allen, and Carol (John) Roberts; great nephew: Anthony (Vanessa) Allen; one great niece: Jacqueline Allen; one great-great nephew: James Allen; and their long-time best friends from Illinois, Larry and Jeannie Zabinski.
