Full Obituary

Maggie Roder, life-long resident of Loyal, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Marshfield, the evening of October 21, 2019.   Margaret Ann Roder, age 80, was born on May 19, 1939 to Carl & Gertrude (Hauser) Roder.  As a toddler, she lived for a short while in Milwaukee while her father worked at a steel company during the WWII war effort.  The family returned to Loyal in 1945 and remained there for the rest of their lives.  Maggie graduated from Loyal High School in 1958.
She was employed at Figi’s in Marshfield, and retired from Fiskars in Spencer in 2004.  It’s doubtful she ever missed listening to or watching a Packer game, and the summers found her fishing in nearby lakes.  She became an expert crafter with crochet hook and knitting needles.  By the end of 2018, she had knitted over 1000 pair of mittens that she donated to the churches & other charities every December.  Her dear friends will always remember her for the beautiful crocheted lace cloths and quilts she gave them.
Maggie made the very generous donation of her body to the UW Madison School of Medicine, saying “with all that’s wrong with me, they should learn something!” Her cremains will eventually be returned to family for burial with her parents at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Loyal.  A Memorial Gathering to celebrate her life is being planned for a later date in early 2020, date and place to be announced.
Maggie leaves behind her close cousins, Joan (Pete) Lindner of Loyal, Marianne (Jim) Walker of Nelsonville, WI, and Ruth Ann (Gary) Timperley of Hay Springs, Nebraska, as well as many close friends in the surrounding Loyal area.
