Full Obituary
MARY GAJDA, age 97, of Lublin, WI, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019 at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp, WI. Funeral services were held at 10am on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church in Lublin. Fr. Hermann Klarr officiated, and burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held at the church, on Saturday, from 9am until time of service.
Mary Bacza was born on September 22, 1921 in rural Lublin, WI, the daughter of Elias and Eva (Zakrzewski) Bacza. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in the Lublin area. Mary was united in marriage to Edward Gajda on June 22, 1940. They owned and operated a tavern and garage in Lublin, for over 20 years. They spent the next 20 years self-employed in the timber industry.
She had many interests, but especially enjoyed traveling to many parts of North America on bus trips and cruises.
Mary was an active life-time member of Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, serving in many capacities.
She is survived by her children: Carole (Richard) Shimel of Holcombe, WI, Larry (Donna) of Suamico, WI, and Lynn (Tom) Seymour of Morris, MN; five grandchildren: Greg Shimel of Holcombe, WI, Randee (Rick) Blumer of Blanchardville, WI, Darcie Gajda and Chris Gajda, both of Sturgeon Bay, WI, and Matt (Heather) Gajda of Snohomish, WA; six great grandchildren: Connor Gajda, Harold Blumer, Edward Blumer, Addison Wesell, Carson Gajda, and Nathaniel Gajda.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, on November 13, 1989; twin newborn sons; and two brothers: Michael and Andrew Bacza and their spouses.
