Full Obituary
BETTY J. ALGER, age 80, of Thorp, WI, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Clark County Rehab & Living Center in Owen, WI. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2019 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Thorp. Rev. Daniel Vang will officiate and burial will follow in Sylvan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Ryan Strzok, Eric Strzok, Jeff Strzok, Lance Haas, Travis Haas, Scott Alger, Eric Alger, and Loren Alger Visitation will be held at the church, on Monday, from 9am until time of service.
Betty Jean DeSota was born on May 6, 1939 in Unity, WI, the daughter of Ivan and Emma (Evenson) DeSota. She was raised and received her education in Stanley, graduating from Stanley High School in 1957. Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Alger on June 15, 1958 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanley, WI. In 1963, they moved to a farm near Thorp, where they raised their family. In addition to being a farmwife, Betty worked as a waitress at the Thorpedo Restaurant, as a clerk at Pabich's Grocery Store, as a Dietary Aide at the Clark County Health Care Center, and as a clerk at Sweet Memories in Thorp.
She had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Betty also enjoyed, gardening, crocheting, working in her flower gardens, bowling, and being a secret Pen Pal at Thorp Elementary School.
Betty was a very active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Red Hat Society, and served on the Town of Reseburg Election Board for many years.
She will be dearly missed by 3 sons: Keith of Thorp, Brian (Delores) of Greenwood, Chris (Brenda) of Edgar; 4 grandchildren: Nicole Alger of Sparta, Cody (Kristen) Alger of Edgar, Michael Alger of La Crosse, Justin (Kourtney) Alger of Edgar; one great-grandson: Brantley Alger; 4 brothers: Duane DeSota of Oak Creek, WI, Dale (Carol) DeSota of Niles, IL, Gary DeSota of Oakdale, MN, Ron (Kandi) DeSota of Overland Park, KS; one sister: Irene Anderson of Gurnee, IL; 3 sisters-in-law: Margaret DeSota of Minneapolis, MN, Sharon DeSota of Milwaukee, WI, and Maryjo DeSota of Blaine, MN; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth L. Alger, on March 8, 2019; her daughter, Kim Marie Alger, on October 10, 2013; and 3 brothers: Ray, Melvin and Dennis DeSota.
