Daniel Roe, age 71, of Loyal, WI, died at the Marshfield Medical Center, in Marshfield, WI, on Friday evening, May 24, 2019 surrounded by his family. Lori Rowe will officiate, and military rites will be conducted by the Loyal American Legion Post #175 following the service. Burial will take place in York Center Methodist Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at the church, on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
Daniel John Roe was born on April 10, 1948 in Akron, OH, the son of the late Harlan and Marilyn (Angel) Roe. He was raised in Spencer, OH where he graduated in 1966 from Black River High School. Dan and Patsy were high school sweethearts and were married on March 25, 1967 at Zion Lutheran Church in Waterville, OH. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps on August 18, 1966, was stationed at Cherry Point, NC, and was honorably discharged on August 17, 1970. Dan worked as a mechanician and later a computer technician at Oscar Mayer before his retirement.
He was a member of the Loyal American Legion Post #175, and the Owen-Withee Masonic Lodge.
Dan loved woodcarving, reading, geeking out on computers (verifiable by the number of books on the subject) and riding his motorcycle with his girl, Patsy, behind him. He also enjoyed winemaking, cooking, and photography. Oh… and fishing at Mead Lake. Or any lake. But especially with his best friend, George.
Dan is survived by his wife Patsy, daughter Beth Starr of Estacada, OR, son Eric Roe (Stephanie Smith-Roe) of Chapel Hill, NC; brothers David (Sharon) Roe of Estacada, OR, and Dale Roe of Lore City, OH; grandchildren Andrew (Krissy) Starr of Bloomdale, OH, Shane Starr of Los Angeles, CA, Hannah Starr of Estacada, OR, and a great-grandson who shares his birthday, Silas Starr of Bloomdale, OH; along with sister- and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Marvin Heminger of Waterville, OH, and brother-in-law, Jerry Stickles of Las Cruces, NM, and many loving nieces and nephews. Dan was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone. He also left behind a heck of a lot of stuff that his family has no idea what to do with. Just sayin'.... So, if you're looking for books about walleye fishing, computer programming, health cookbooks, westerns, or practically any topic you can imagine....wait the appropriate amount of time and get in touch.
Dan would say he was born, he blinked, and it was over. No buildings were named after him; no monuments erected in his honor. But he was fiercely loved and greatly respected and will be forever missed. And in the end....it doesn't get any better than that.
A special thank you to the people at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, for their loving care and support during his final days. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude toward Dan's friends from the American Legion, the Masons, and members of Loyal & York Center UMC Churches for their friendships and visits.
Dan has requested that Memorial donations be made to Patsy Roe to help cover medical costs at 109 W. Central, Loyal, Wisconsin, 54446.
