Full Obituary
EDWARD OBLAK, age 95, of Loyal, WI, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at his home. A Celebration of Ed's Life will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Loyal, on Saturday, May 25, 2019. Rev. Varkey V. Joseph will officiate, and burial will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date. Military rites will be conducted by the Loyal American Legion Post #175. Visitation will be held at the church, on Saturday, from 9am until time service.
Edward Oblak was born on May 27, 1923 in Duluth, MN, the son of Anton and Mary (Henigman) Oblak. He was raised and received his education in Duluth, where he graduated from high school. Ed then attended 2 years of college before entering the
U.S. Army Air Force on October 1, 1942. He attained the rank of sergeant, and after his honorable discharge on November 8, 1945, moved to Milwaukee where he worked at Kearney & Trecker. Ed was later employed with AC Spark Plug, in Milwaukee, where he was an inspector and worked on the N.A.S.A. Mercury, Gemini and Apollo projects of putting man on the moon. He was united in marriage to Joan K. Meer on April 11, 1953 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, in Milwaukee. In 1972, they moved to Loyal, and purchased the Stein Haus Bar, which he and his wife operated. Ed was also employed at Land O' Lakes in Spencer, WI, in the maintenance department until retiring in 1988.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Loyal American Legion Post #175.
Ed had many interests, but especially loved religion, spending time with his family, and watching sports and game shows.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Joan "Ma" Oblak, of Loyal; 6 children: Terry (Chuck) Manthe of Spencer, Edward J. "Chipper" (Sue) of Slinger, WI, Cindy Thaler of Kenosha, WI, John (Cheri) Oblak of Loyal, Julie Oblak of Marshfield, WI, and Jenna (Mike) Wehrman of Loyal; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Annie Purcell of Duluth, MN and Jean Zupanc of Greensburg, PA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter: Heidi Oblak; one son: Greg Oblak; a son-in-law: Gary Thaler; 2 sisters: Fran Steinke and Marion Renko; and 2 brothers: Jim and John Oblak.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ed's name for a memorial to be established at a later date.
