Full Obituary
FLORENCE P. ROMANOWSKI, age 92, of Thorp, WI, passed away at Mayo Clinic Health System, in Eau Claire, WI, on Sunday, April 21, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 11:30am on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. Baskaran Sandhiyagu will officiate and burial will follow in Old St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Jamis Anderson, Jesse Anderson, Jarrett Anderson, Marcus Sauer, Tim Haas and Jim Nowobielski. Visitation will be held at the church, on Wednesday, from 10am until time of service.
Florence Patricia Kaleta was born on August 7, 1926 in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp, the daughter of Stanley and Josephine (Nowak) Kaleta. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at Colby Rural School. After completing her education, Florence moved to Chicago and worked in a factory for a couple of years, before returning to Thorp and working at Mattes Livestock. She was united in marriage to Edward A. Romanowski on January 24, 1950 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thorp. They farmed in the Town of Reseburg for many years until her husband's death on May 20, 1988. Florence continued to live on the farm until moving into Thorp in 2012. In addition to farming with her husband, she also worked in the kitchen at Silver Dollar for many years.
She had many interests, but especially enjoyed bowling and gardening.
Florence was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church and its PCCW, and also was a member of the Thorp American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Patricia (DuWayne "Butch") Anderson and Rita Teschler, both of Thorp; 8 grandchildren: Jesse Anderson (Angela), Jamis Anderson (Suzanne), Jarrett Anderson (Lana), Jennifer Haas (Tim), Paula Teschler (Danny), Missy Teschler (Rob), Cassandra Sauer (Matt), and Marcus Sauer (Kelsey); 13 great-grandchildren: Brooklynn, Carson, Connor, Brodey, Parker, Ashton, Brantley, Breken, Shana, Olivia, Harold, Samantha, and Aiden; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, Sr.; 4 sons: Edward Jr., Richard, John and Thomas; 7 brothers: John, Felix, Peter, Leon, Emil, Charles and Edmund; and 7 sisters: Harriet Mamayek, Mary Kaminski, Rose Grzelak, Clara Wargolet, Veronica Winkowski, Victoria Biddle and Anna Kaleta.
