Full Obituary
MARIE E. KOWALCZYK, age 93, formerly of Thorp, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Clark County Rehabilitation & Living Center in Owen. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at 10:30am, at St. Bernard- St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. Janusz will officiate and burial will follow in New St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, on Wednesday, from 9:30am until time of service.
Marie Estelle Koperski was born on August 24, 1923, in the Town of Hixon, rural Withee, to John and Kathren (Kryewski) Koperski. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at area schools. After completing her education, Marie moved to Chicago, IL where she worked as housekeeper. She later worked for Argyle Instruments for a few years. She was united in marriage to Chester Kowalczyk on August 24, 1946. For the next 30 years, Marie worked at the Brach's Candy Company until her retirement in 1986. They then moved to Thorp, where she resided until entering the Clark County Rehabilitation & Living Center in Owen in November 2015.
Marie is survived by her daughter: Antoinette M. Jacobson; her granddaughter: Cynthia Jacobson, and her great-grandson: Charles Weckler, all of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her sister: Catherine Koltis of San Francisco, CA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chester on May 16, 1996; 6 brothers and 5 sisters.
She was a member of St. Bernard - St. Hedwig's Catholic Church and the Thorp American Legion Auxiliary.
Marie had many interests, but especially loved cooking, playing cards, listening to the radio, going out for dinner, and dancing. She also was her husband's caregiver during his illness until his death in 1996.
