Condolences to the Family of William J. "Bill" Snedic

James Van Straten San Antonio, Texas – Posted On: May 19, 2023

Heartfelt condolences to the Snedic family. Bill and I were roommates at St. Norbert College during our senior year and were teammates on the college's track and field team. Bill was a distance runner while I ran the dashes. The last time Bill and I were together was at our family's lakeside cottage near Eagle River, WI. I believe Bill's sister, Mary Ann, was with him at that time. We all enjoyed the day immensely. I have some information related to our days at St. Norbert College that I would like to pass on to the Snedic family and would ask that Mary Ann contact me at vanstrat@flash.net

May Bill rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon him.

Sent with profound sadness but with joy over the good life that Bill lived,
James Van Straten

I was not a longtime friend of Bill, but after having several conversations with him , you knew what a great person he was. I had asked him if he could design an urn for my parents ashes. My father had died before my mother, and they wanted to be buried together. He designed the most beautiful box and they were buried together in St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwood after my mothers funeral. At other times he talked about his family and how they spent wonderful winters together in the southwest . The
tour of his work building was also incredibly interesting. My favorite sculpture was the male and female skeletons driving a wooden wagon. It looked like it was made for a El Dia de l0s Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration in Mexico. I have been to many of them all across Mexico, because my birthday falls within the three day celebration and I chose to spend many birthdays there. Across his kitchen wall he had beautiful paintings of religious icons . I didn't ask him who the artist was, but they were much like some I have by Moravian artist Fr. Emil Glocar.

Maryann, Ron and family
So saddened to hear of Bill's passing. For those of us who lived close to Bill and regularly traveled thru his" peaceful valley", Bill will be sorely missed, I always looked forward to chatting with Bill as he shared many stories of his adventures in life. Bill was always very active, and was meticulous in the care of his property. We as neighbors and friends will miss seeing Bill tending to his vegetable garden and flowerbeds. Bill loved watching his flock of turkeys go back and forth across the valleys, and he got a kick out of every Spring when a doe would bring her newborn fawns right up by his house. He especially loved feeding his birds. Bill was so keen on life, but, remained a simple man. He enjoyed his 4'oclock bottle of beer, fighting off Asian beetles sitting on his bench in the fall. Or his 6'oclock bowl of ice cream watching his birds at the bird feeders. Bill was always very generous with sharing his land with several neighbors. Even though, Bill didn't hunt anymore (his favorite was squirrel huntin) ,he enjoyed hearing the hunting stories ,and the ones that got away! Thank you Bill for teaching us so much and we will miss you!
