Full Obituary

FERN M. KODL, age 94, of Thorp, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 11am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Thorp. Rev. Daniel Vang will officiate and burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Withee. Pallbearers will be: Curt Kodl, Jeremy Kodl, Jeanne Ring, Jason Kodl, Matt Kodl, and Tim Kodl. Honorary pallbearers will be: Preston Kodl and Douglas Kodl. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 from 5-8pm at the Thorp Funeral Home and again on Tuesday, from 10am until 11am at the church.
Fern Marcella Peterson was born on April 17, 1923 in Osage, IA to Hans and Pearl (Haskett) Peterson. She was raised and educated in the Osage area. After completing her education, she met her future husband, Joseph Kodl, and they were married on September 15, 1939 in Mason City, IA. They later moved to Thorp and purchased a dairy farm in the Town of Withee. They farmed until retirement when they moved to a home on the northside of Thorp. After Joseph's death in 1998, Fern moved to a smaller home on Prospect Street in Thorp where she resided until entering Oakbrook Health & Rehab in January 2017.
Fern had many interests, but especially enjoyed sewing, embroidering, and volunteering at the Thorp American Legion and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
She was a member of the Thorp American Legion Auxillary and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Fern is survived by her 5 children: Roger (Faye) Kodl of Granton, James Kodl of Waukesha, John Kodl of Minneapolis, MN, William (Crystal) Kodl of Wicomico, VA, and Jody Kodl of Minneapolis, MN; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister: Helen Johnson of Northfield, MN. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph Kodl on
January 27,1998, her son: Milton J. Kodl on January 22, 2009, and 1 brother: Raymond Peterson.
