SANDRA A. MALMQUIST, age 78, of Marshfield, WI, formerly of Neillsville, WI, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.  Per her request, no services will be held.  Interment of cremains will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd, MN in the Spring of 2017.
Sandra Ann Lawrence was born on April 29, 1938 in Hibbing, MN to Sander and Jessie (Bolin) Lawrence.  She was raised and received her education in Hibbing, MN, graduating from Hibbing High School in 1956.  Sandy was united in marriage on August 22, 1959 to Roy A. Malmquist at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Hibbing, MN.  Her husband was a school teacher and they moved often, living in Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota and finally settling in Hudson, WI in 1969.  While in Hudson, she was involved with the St. Croix County Historical Society where she volunteered at the Octagon House and was also a teacher's aide at the Fourth Street Elementary School.  In the early 1980's, she attended UW-Stout in Menomonie, WI, where she earned her certificate in Early Childhood Education.  Soon after graduation, Sandy worked for the Rainbow Christian Preschool.  Through the years, Sandy was very active in the United Methodist Church where she served as a Stephens minister, was the church Librarian and book restorer and volunteered in the kitchen.  In amongst all her activities, she found time to provide child care for friends and grandchildren.  After retiring in 2001, they moved to Hammond, WI for a few years and then to Neillsville, WI in 2008.  They resided in Neillsville until entering Atrium Post Acute Care of Marshfield, in Marshfield, WI.
She had many interests, but especially loved children.  In addition to her own grandchildren, she had numerous “adopted” grandchildren.  Sandy’s tradition was to make each special child a Christmas stocking, the fancier the better.
Sandy will be dearly missed by her husband, Roy, of Marshfield;  two children:  Carl (Gwen) Malmquist of New Hope, MN,  Judy (Thomas) Schmidt of Loyal, WI;  three grandchildren:  Jessica (Daniel) Gregory of Enid, OK,  Jacob (Sara) Steinhoff of Marshfield, WI,  Ally Malmquist of New Hope, MN;  one sister:  Ethel Sarff of St. Cloud, MN;  one brother-in-law:  Karl Thorson of Minneapolis, MN;  nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son: Sander G. Malmquist on March 16, 1964; and one sister:  Glennis Thorson.
