Melania Agnes Karpinski was born on December 1, 1924 in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp, to Henry and Nettie (Walczak) Karpinski. She was raised on the family farm, attended the Goff School, and later graduated from Thorp High School in 1943. After high school, Melania moved to Milwaukee and worked in a sewing factory for a few years. When farming wasn't easy for her parents, she moved back to Thorp and helped out on the farm. She later worked for ITT Life Insurance Corporation for many years, until they moved to Minnesota. Melania then cleaned homes for people in Thorp, and also worked at Figi's, in Marshfield, for a few years. In July of 2006, she entered Oakbrook Heath & Rehab, and resided there until the time of her death.

She had many interests, but especially enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, dancing, knitting, crocheting, and making many beautiful afghans.

Melania was a member of St. Bernard/St. Hedwig's Catholic Church and its PCCW, working at the Quonset Hall whenever she could. During the 1990's, Melania also participated in the 60-Plus performances at the Thorp School auditoriums.

She is survived by two sisters: Martha Wojt of Thorp, and Dorothy Rhodes of West Bend, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Melania was preceded in death by her parents.

Her sister's would like to thank the staff at Oakbrook Health & Rehab for all of their wonderful care.
