Loriena I. Humke was born on April 14, 1917 in the Town of Warner, rural Greenwood, the daughter of Arthur and Laura (Noah) Humke. She was raised on the family farm, attended Decker Grade School and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1937. After high school graduation, Loriena attended the School of Cosmetology in Eau Claire, and then worked for Lucille McConnell in her beauty shop, in Greenwood, for 4 years. She was united in marriage to John "Jake" Lindner on October 4, 1939 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood. They farmed until 1958 and then moved to Greenwood. After Jake's death in September 1968, Loriena became a nurse's aid at Memorial Medical Center, in Neillsville, where she worked in the hospital and OB Department from 1969 until retiring in 1987.
She sold the big "White House" in Greenwood in 1992 and moved into the Black River Apartments where she resided until 2006, at which time, due to ill health, she moved to the Health & Rehab Center in Neillsville. In November 2009, she moved to Bethany Nursing Home, in Waupaca, where she has resided until her death.
Loriena was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Society, acted as the prayer chain leader, belonged to the Birthday and Intersee Bridge Clubs, and was a member of Clark County Homemakers. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and enjoyed feeding the "Lindner crew" at thrashing or any time there was a need. She was an avid gardener, seamstress, and enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, quilting, bowling, and reading in her later years. She loved preparing for family get-together's and enjoyed the grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchild when they visited. We will miss her wonderful laughter. She was the last of a great generation.
She is lovingly survived by her three daughters: Karen Martens of Waupaca, Alice (Roger) Nielsen of Iola, Dianne Lindner of Waupaca; her grandchildren: Amy (Daniel) Bestul, Julie Martens, John (Margaret) Martens, Andrea (Luis) Leal; great grandchildren: Johnathan (Miranda) Bestul, Jordan (Brian) Richie, Mary, Grace and Hope Martens, Levi, Samantha and Kenneth Reesman; step- grandchild: Luis Leal, Jr.; great-great grandchildren: Ellaina Bestul and Baby Ritchie; her siblings: Bernelda Liebzeit of Thorp and Eldore (Alice) Humke of Loyal; as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
Loriena was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Laura; her husband, Jake; her great granddaughter, Caitlin Martens in 2003; her son-in-law, Theodore Martens in 2009; and her brother, Elmer Humke in 2010.
