Joseph Stanley Powszukiewicz was born on March 18, 1922 on the family farm south of Thorp, the son of Alex and Stella (Siegienski) Powszukiewicz. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in Thorp area schools, graduating from Thorp High School in 1940. Joe served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, from January 18, 1944 until his honorable discharge on May 13, 1946. He returned to Thorp and operated the family farm for many years until his health forced him to retire. He volunteered his service at the Thorp Senior Center, and when he was no longer able to work, would go there to socialize and enjoyed playing cards with his buddies.
Joe had many interests, but especially enjoyed Polka music, crossword puzzles, was an avid sports fan of the Brewers and Packers, and enjoyed bowling.
He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor as well as placing other people's needs above his own.
He is survived by one sister: Francine "Mary" Powers of Chippewa Falls; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Walter, Frank, Adam and John; one sister: Rose Wilczek; and two nephews: Jerome and Patrick Wilczek.
