MARGARET E. "PEGGY" DRINKA, age 63, formerly of Thorp, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019 in Madison, WI having bravely faced dementia. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Thorp Funeral Home, with Pastor John Sindler officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00am until time of service. Private interment will take place at a later date.
Margaret Elizabeth Drinka was born on September 28, 1955 in Medford, WI, to John and Norma (Murphy) Drinka, and received her education in the Medford and Thorp schools. As a teenager Peggy was welcomed into the home of Joe and Karen J. Koltis as a foster child, and over the next five decades was blessed with two loving families.
Peggy spent many happy years on the Koltis family farm and later moved to Neillsville, WI, where she spent precious time with her siblings, nieces, and nephews. Peggy loved to garden, milk cows, feed birds, raise puppies and kittens, and make delicious meals for her family. She particularly loved harlequin novels, word-seek puzzles, browsing thrift shops and garage sales for overlooked treasures, and sampling the newest flavor of chewing gum to hit the market.
Peggy will be dearly missed by her son: Joseph (Jeff Ahrens) Koltis of Herriman, UT; 3 brothers: James (Julie) Drinka of Neillsville, WI, Donald (Lori) Drinka of Owen, WI, and Richard (Kathleen) Drinka of Marshfield, WI; 4 sisters: Susan Nelson of Stanley, WI, Mildred (Keith) Palmer of Longwood, WI, Sandy (Mark) Welniak of Friendship, WI, and Katherine Drinka of Marshfield, WI; one foster brother: Ron (Deb) Koltis of Thorp, WI; one foster sister: Karen A. Koltis (Tom Lobacz) of Thorp, WI; one foster brother-in-law: Mike Cox of Stanley, WI; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and foster parents; 3 brothers: Robert Drinka, Mike Drinka, and Gerald Drinka; and her foster sister: Cheryl (Koltis) Cox.
Peggy’s family would like to thank the following for the compassion and tenderness with which they provided care to Peggy during her final years: Emily Lutzen and staff at Inclusa; Carol Giwojna; Judy Huls and staff at The Home Place; AGrace Palliative and Hospice staff; Dr. Jessica Kelderman with VPA; and Mya Williams and staff at Betsy’s AFH.
