DIANE K. MEYER, 69, a longtime resident of Loyal, WI, died at her home on Friday, March 2, 2018, under the care of Ascension Ministry Home Care, with her loving husband, Danny, at her side.
Diane was born March 27, 1948 in rural Loyal, WI, to the late Christian and Norma (Meacham) Oestreich. She married the love of her life, Daniel P. Meyer, on March 7, 1970. After her marriage, Diane lived with Danny and three of her sons in Stoughton, WI from 1970 to 1975, where she made many lifelong friends. In 1975, Diane and Danny purchased Diane’s parents farm, and she and her family moved back to Loyal to live and work on the home farm. Diane often remarked that she lived nearly her entire life on the farm where she grew up, and that’s just where she wanted to be.
Diane attended Soo Grove School, in Riplinger, and graduated from Loyal High School in 1966. She was employed at the Marshfield Clinic from June 1966 until her marriage in 1970. Diane loved being a mom, enjoyed raising her four boys, helping Danny on the farm, riding horse, being a homemaker and attending all of her boy’s school and sporting activities, especially wrestling, where she never missed an event. Diane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She truly cherished the time she spent with her family and will be greatly missed. Every nook and cranny in her home can attest to that fact, where she proudly displayed pictures and mementos of her "Boys", grandchildren, parents, and all her loved ones.
Diane had many accomplishments in her life. As a member of the Spencer JayCettes, Diane was the 1985 recipient of the Elsie Daggett Award for JayCettes. Diane earned blue ribbons for pie entries at the Stoughton Junior Fair, and she stood proudly by Danny’s side as Wisconsin’s 1983 Outstanding Young Farmer. Diane was awarded the Wisconsin FFA Honorary Degree in 1994. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. She was the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren, and she made the BEST chocolate chip cookies! Just ask those grandkids!
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Daniel P. Meyer of Loyal; three sons: Derrick (Debbie) Meyer of Amery, WI; David (Lisa) Meyer od Hudson, WI; Damon (Arlaina) Meyer of Rice Lake, WI; 10 grandchildren: Dani, Deanna, Drew and Deidra Meyer; Bret (Gena) Olson, Paige, Bryce and Carly Meyer; James and Elliot Meyer; three sisters: Shirley (William) Carpenter of Wisconsin Rapids, Rachel (Craig) Johnston of Marshfield, and Rebecca (William) O’Black of Edgar; her in-laws: Sr. Virdean Meyer, Richard (Judy) Meyer, Fritz (Judy) Meyer, Larry (Virginia) Meyer, Allen (Diane) Meyer, Randy (Pam) Meyer, Bob (Coni) Meyer; one sister-in-law: Judy Meyer; one brother-in-law: Al Lis; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Michael (July 30, 1970 - January 1, 1991); one sister, Carolyn Lis; her father and mother-in-law, Alfred and Odelia Meyer; and brother-in-law, Ronald Meyer.
Diane was a vibrant, caring, loving person. A bright flame was extinguished on March 2, 2018, but there is a new star shining brightly in our heavens.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1PM on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Loyal. Father Steve Brice will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 from 4 PM to 8 PM at St. Anthony Catholic Church, and again Saturday, from noon until time of services. Following the ceremony, Diane will be laid to rest next to her son, Danny, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery.
Diane was so proud of her grandson James, who has worked tirelessly to raise money for Food for the Poor to build homes (3) in Guatemala. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Food for the Poor.(www.foodforthepoor.org/jamesronaldo)
