Full Obituary

     LEON "LEO" STANIEC, SR., age 89, of Thorp, passed away at the Clark County Rehab & Living Center, in Owen, on Saturday, November 25, 2017.  Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Thorp Funeral Home, in Thorp.  Rev. Marion Talaga will officiate and burial will follow at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Cemetery, in Lublin.  Pallbearers will be:  Dylan Staniec, Danielle Staniec, Travis Wright, Lacey Ladewig, and Randy Ladewig.  Visitation will be held at Thorp Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 4pm to 7pm, and again on Thursday, from 10am until time of service.
     Leon Staniec was born on October 27, 1928 in Lublin, WI, the son of Michael and Antonette (Nowak) Staniec.  He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Lublin area.  As a young man, Leo worked in construction and in a factory, in Chicago, driving to Chicago to work during the week and returning home to Lublin on the weekends.  He was united in marriage to Clara Mary Markowski on April 16, 1951 in Medford.  They lived and farmed in Lublin, and Leo also worked other jobs, including, Bellinger Cheese Factory, drove truck for Foremost Dairy in Owen for more than 10 years, and drove truck for Migg's Asphalt in Abbotsford.  He retired from farming in 1993 and moved to Thorp in 1995.  Leo resided in Thorp until moving to Clark County Rehab & Living Center in March 2015.
     He was a member of St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin, was a former member of the Roosevelt Rod & Gun Club, served on the board for the Town of Roosevelt, and was the patrolman for the Town of Roosevelt for many years.
     Leo had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards, playing pool, going to the casino, and bowling.
     He will be dearly missed by his 5 children:  Sharon Staniec of Thorp,  Leon Jr. "Leo" (Linda) of Thorp,  Shirley (Terry) Wright of Chippewa Falls,  Sandy Brecht of Greenwood,  Michael of Thorp;  seven grandchildren;  seven great-grandchildren;  nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
     Leo was preceded in death by his parents;  his wife, Clara, on March 12, 2009;  one daughter, Julie Staniec in October 1971;  one son-in-law:  David Brecht;  one sister:  Julia Stortecky; and one brother:  Walter Staniec.
